PTR Triumph Factory Racing teammates Tom Booth-Amos and Oli Bayliss made history at the penultimate round of the FIM Supersport World Championship this weekend, securing a historic 1-2 finish aboard the Street Triple 765 RS at Estoril - a first for both Triumph Motorcycles and the PTR team.

With Portugal's Circuito Estoril as the backdrop for the 11th round of the 2026 season, the PTR pairing of Booth-Amos and Bayliss were strong from the start of the weekend and qualified third and fourth respectively for Saturday’s opening race.

Booth-Amos lined up on the front row in third, with teammate Bayliss just behind and as the lights went out for what was to be an exhilarating 18-lap race, the pair were pushed back a few places in the opening stages.

However it wasn’t long until Booth-Amos, utilising the power of his Triumph 765cc triple-cylinder machine, was back at the front and in podium contention. By half race distance the battle in the lead group was intensifying and over the line the pack were five-a-breast with the PTR duo passing either side of the charging Yamaha’s, where Bayliss took the lead, with Booth-Amos slotting into second.

From there the PTR Triumph’s were locked in battle with Australian Bayliss looking to secure his debut WSS win, and Booth-Amos keen to add to his win tally. As the laps counted down Booth-Amos piled on pressure to Bayliss ahead.

In the closing stages the PTR machines were side-by-side over the start/finish line, with Booth-Amos making his pass on his teammate for the lead. However, keeping close Bayliss chased him to the finish line where he took his WSS career-best finish in second, just 0.075s behind Booth-Amos, who claimed his third victory this season. The result marks a first in the World Supersport category for both Triumph and the PTR team, who have played a crucial role in developing the Street Triple 765 RS.

Sunday’s race proved more challenging for the team. Booth-Amos again lined up on the front row, with Bayliss starting fifth, but a chaotic start saw both riders lose ground. Booth-Amos soon fought his way back into the leading battle and, as rain threatened to complicate conditions, briefly took the lead on lap six. However, his race came to an early end moments later when he lost the front and crashed out.

With Bayliss now the team’s sole rider on track, attention turned to the #32 machine as he fought his way through the field and into fifth. However, on lap 10, the race was red-flagged after Bahattin Sofuoglu crashed, leaving debris on the track.

With three-quarters race distance yet to be completed, a six-lap sprint was declared for the restart, with the Supersport field regrouping on the grid. Another hectic start saw Bayliss lose ground, before running off track at Turn 4 on lap two, at the same spot where his teammate had crashed earlier. Rejoining in 28th, Bayliss fought his way back through the field to take the chequered flag in 19th.

Meanwhile the Compos Racing team enjoyed a positive weekend where in Superpole Ondrej Vostatek finished fifth, his and the teams’ best qualifying position to date. Race 1 saw the 22-year-old cross the line ninth, while Race 2 he was just outside the points in 17th.

The final round of the FIM Supersport Championship takes place next weekend (16-17-18 October) at Jerez, Spain where Booth-Amos will be looking to end his season on a high. Meanwhile, Bayliss will be in action at Brands Hatch for the final round of the British Supersport Championship, where after a thrilling season he’s sitting third overall in the championship standings.

Tom Booth-Amos:

“Yesterday was an incredible day for myself, Oli, Triumph and the PTR team to get that 1-2. It’s always great to stand on the top step and win, but to have your teammate and friend up there with you makes it that more special. Today, sadly it wasn’t meant to be, we tried but with the mixed conditions and the hecticness of the race it just wasn’t our day. We will now regroup and put all our focus to the final round next weekend and hope we can end the season on a high. Thank you to Triumph and to my team for their hard work yesterday!’

Oli Bayliss:

“Obviously really happy with yesterday's result, I knew Tom was going to have a go on the last lap and I made the mistake of leaving the door open. But I’m happy with the result, my best WSS finish and it was great for Triumph and the team to secure a 1-2 for the first time. I’m now looking forward to getting back to the British championship next weekend. I've had a great time with the Macadam Triumph Factory Racing team and hope we can have a good finish to the year. Good luck to Tom and PTR for Jerez!”
